Donna Zitzelberger has over 30 years experience on the guitar, and performs professionally with flute, voice, and piano ensembles. She teaches guitar in Thousand Oaks, CA both privately and semi-privately from her home studio. Students are given many performance opportunities. She is passionate about continuously developing new ways to effectively teach the instrument to provide students with a solid foundation in technique and understanding of music so they can reach their goals on the instrument.
While growing up in the city of San Francisco, Donna was exposed to a variety of musical experiences with the guitar and ukulele. Donna began playing the ukelele at age 5, and began guitar at age 10. She has an eclectic background in which she has worked in music, nursing, social action, elementary school music teaching, and even girl scout leading. All of this has led to a deep understanding of the challenges and joys of working with children and their parents, as well as adult students.
Donna studied classical guitar privately with the late James Smith, chair of the classical guitar department at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music; Andrew York, Grammy Award winning guitarist/composer; Douglas Neidt, and Scott Kritzer in the Classical Guitar Immersion Program. She has lectured at USC on the topic of effectively teaching children.
Donna is the featured guitarist on these CD recordings: “Prince of Peace” and “In God’s Arms” both featuring vocalist Vincent Adams.
